The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations
(CEE) has devised a statistical method for normalising the marks of students of
different streams at the Plus Two level for preparing the engineering entrance
rank list this year.
The method, based on statistical parameters
like ‘global mean’ and ‘global standard deviation’, is seen as a refinement on
the existing procedure of standardisation.
This was one of the major changes in the
prospectus for the entrance test for admissions to the Medical, Fisheries,
Veterinary, Agriculture, Engineering and Architecture courses for the year
2012, released on Wednesday.
The application submission process for the
entrance examinations has been made online for the first time from this year.
The ‘Global Mean’ would be the ‘mean’ of the
final year marks secured by all students in a subject in the Kerala Higher
Secondary, Kerala VHSE, CBSE and CISCE streams in the years from 2009 to 2012.
The ‘Global Standard Deviation’ would be the
standard deviation of the final year marks during this period. In 2011, when
the marks of the plus two examinations were considered for the first time for
preparing the rank list for the Engineering stream, the marks of students of
other streams were normalised with the marks of the corresponding subjects of
the Kerala Higher Secondary.
The prospectus will be sold along with the
security cards for submitting the application through selected Post Offices.
The facility to submit the online applications will begin on January 19 and
continue till February 14.
The time limit for online submission of
application will be till 5 pm on that day. The last date for receipt of the
printout of the online application along with supporting documents at the
office of the CEE is February 15.
The CEE will activate the facility for
downloading of the Admit cards for the Entrance Examination on March 24.
The Engineering Entrance Examination will be
held on April 23 and 24, and the medical entrance examinations on April 25 and
26.
