MALA MY NATIVE PLACE, Mala, MALA.

Mala is a small town in Thrissur district of Kerala, in south India. This is the southern most part of Thrissur District. Mala Town comes in the Mala Panchayath.  It is a  about 40 km north of Ernakulam near Kodungallur and about 35 km south of Trichur. Mala is one of the Assembly contituencies of Trichur district.
Mala assembly Constistuency consits of Panchyaths namely,Alur,  Mala, Poyya. Annamanada, Puthenchira, Vellanngallur and Kuzhur,This assembly constituency comes under the Chalakkudy Parliament Constituency.,
HISTORY.
In the early times, Mala was a colony of Jews . There is currently no Jewish community.  They all  left from the country and the synagogue and cemetery was handed over to the Mala Panchayat on April 1, 1955. The name 'Mala' might have  originated from the Hebrew word "Mal-Aha" which means "Center of Refugee". Mala is one of the popular and important places among Keralites, had a glorious past and cultural heritage where people of all caste and creed came from all parts of India and abroad for business and for settlement. Tranquillizing and exuberant beauty attracted the pilgrims like Jews (Israelites), Konkanis, Kudumbies etc. to this place.

Population-People belongs  to Hindu, Muslin and Christian  communities are living here in peace and in harmoney.  Most of the people are enguaged in farming and  business. Faming includes paddy, banana, Coconut, arecaunut,nutmeg, Rubber.  Cattle and Poultry are also makes earings to so many families. Foreign money is the source of income for many families. So many   youngsters are enguaged in the  IT fileld and working in India and abroad.
There are many temples, churches and mosques in Mala. St. Antonys churh is the main church in Mala. It is in the town itself. One of the oldest Carmilite Monastree is located near the town namely Kottackal St. Theresa’s Monastry, which is built by blessed Father Chavara Kuriakose in 1867. There is a Kongini Temple 'Mungunda Krishna Swami Kshetram' near Malakulam.St. Stanislaus Church situated at Mala is the only church in India in this Saint's Name.
Also famous Iranikkulam Mahadeva kshetram (Mahadeva Temple) is just 7 km away from Mala Town. This divine place is famous for the "Panchaiswaryangal" (means 5 miracles) and the unique brahmani pattu (This is a rtitual in kerala for praying to goddess parvati by brahmani people.. Important festival here is in Thiruvathira days and unmarried girls from across Kerala coming here to pray to goddess Parvati for successful marriages and long life to their family.The other Mahadeva temples nearby are Annamanada Mahadeva kshethram, Astamichira Mahadeva Kshetram and Tankulam Mahadeva Kshetram in Pooppathy.

The public and private transport system are far better here compared to other places. From KSRTC Sub depot buses are plying to various places of the state and outside Kerala. One Private bust stand is also there in the town. 

Hostoric importance of Mala
 Mala is one of the oldest places in Kerala where Jews were populated. Mala was a main trading center of the Jews because of its close proximity to waterways that connected to many important ports in Kerala. In Mala there is a Jewish synagogue. This is kept as a monument by the Panchyath authorities in memory of the Jewish community lived there many decades ago. . Another place is the Jewish Cemetery near the Mala Police Station.,in Mala Town . Now it is in ruins.
The famous Pambu mekkattu mana and the temple there is only a distance of 2 Km from Mala Town and this pilgrim centre attracts thousands of devotees from various part of the country. Special pooja and offerings are performed there during the Mandala kalam ie from Malayalam Month Vreschikam-1st to 41 days.

Mala is also an educational hub consisting of an Engineering College, BEd College, an MBA College, a Govt. ITI, Govt. Commercial Institute Govt. Polytechnic at Aloor Panchayath. and many other professional institutions. There is also a Christian girls' college named Carmel college in the Mala  Town.  Mala Town is also called as Mala Angady.

The natural beauty of Mala is very scenic and enchanting. . Its proximity to the 'back-waters' connected to Arabian sea, makes it a unique small town between Chalakkudy and Kodungallur (where St. Thomas, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ believed landed in A D 52).
Mala was the pet constinuency of the former Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. K.Karunakaran He represented Mala constituency from 1965 to 1995 Also, the famous Malayalam film comedy actor Mala Aravindan is from Ambazhakadu area of Mala. There is a Kongini Temple 'Mungunda Krishna Swami Kshetram' near Malakulam.

The post office  is MALA and the Pincode is 680732. So many goverment offices, banks hospitals are situated in Mala.  Mala Police station is also in the town.

The nearby  places are Poyya, Krishnan Kotta, Pooppathy, Ashtamichira, Vadama, Annamanada, Meladur, Valiyaparambu, Vennur,Palayam parambu, Vynthala, Pazhukkara, Naithakudy,Mala Pallippuram,Kundur, Kuzhur, Eravathur, Kundayi,Puthenchira, Maniyamkavu, Marekkad,Pindani, Mamkidi, Velloor etc.
